i've been here for years

grey

wrinkled

surrounded by the remnants

of old friends

looking out

over every hue of blue

the waves

beautiful and sad

go up and then down

the water washes over me

stays for a moment

and then leaves me

taking something with it

every time

summer

a flame beneath the spoon

children scorch their fingers on the rough

winter and

they hide behind me to cry

there are many of us

sitting here

waiting for the same fate

and yet

i feel alone
